Wishing you a Joyous New Year. Flowers will return and then bees and butterflies. When the Monarch Butterflies didn’t arrive in 2013, I remembered the precariousness of what I take for granted.
With prayers for a Healthy Earth,
Elaine

What are your favorite flowers and insects? You might also enjoy 12 sunset images in Sunsets Over Seneca Lake: 2013. In January, I’ll return with more stories after this two-week photographic interlude.

  1. They’re beautiful. Thank you and Happy New Year, Elaine.

  2. I hope 2014 is as colorful and vibrant for you as your photos–gorgeous!

    • I hope the same to you, Marian. I’ve had fun playing with photos (my anti-grief therapy), but I’m gathering ideas for new blogs. I thought this might be a good time of year to look rather than read. Sending you wishes for a Blessed New Year.

  3. Thank you so much for these gorgeous photos, Elaine–a tribute to life.

    • Lynne, I think like your painting (only requiring less skill), photography helps me see the color and beauty of life and pulls me out of myself and sadness. Losses always happen, so it’s good to find a way to hold on to the side of color and light. Sending you New Year’s Blessings and more light.

  4. Lovely, Elaine.

  5. Elaine, thank you for sharing the stunning pictures of nature. In these cold temps it truly makes one long for the coming of Spring. You are a great photographer as well as a writer. Wishing you health, happiness and peace!

    • Thank you, Debby. I’m a playful photographer and it helps me find beauty everywhere. Yesterday in a packed and noisy grocery store when all my instincts were to run, I got a cup of green tea and then took a 10 minute break to take photos of orchids. Coming soon to a FB page near you. And speaking of coming soon, your book has been shipped.

      • Wow and wow, lol. Look forward to a new special FB page and to your review! Have you been on my amazon page lately? I was thrilled to receive 4 great reviews, so gratifying. 🙂 xo

        • I have not been there, D.G. Glad you’re getting positive response. It’s hard to get anyone to notice since there are so many options for people, so bravo. I know you’ve worked hard on both writing and social media. I await the arrival of your book. Not yet. I hope to get started on a review that was promised for early January. I’ve read the book, so it won’t take long once I get going, but I was distracted by something I HAD to write about. More important are deadlines Jan. 7 for title (have it) and catalog copy (wrote a good draft, but now publisher is fine tuning with a few ideas I hadn’t thought of). Best to you. Freezing butt around here.

  6. Absolutely beautiful photographs, Elaine!!!

    • Thank you, Kirsten. Beauty everywhere, but it will be well below zero with windchills -20 on Friday night with 6-12 inches of drifting snow, so we pay a price for those flowers. I’ll hunker in near my wood stove while you walk on the beach.

  7. Stunning!! You are such a good and sensitive photographer! I’d love to enlarge, print, and frame some of these amazing pics. xoxo

    • Hmmm… Which would you like for your birthday and what size? I’m serious, of course. Time to get going on that project if we want it done in time. I know the guy who will do the print. Thank you, Liz. It was hard to choose my favorite twelve. Hope I get to photograph a Monarch butterfly this summer.

  8. Such gorgeous images! The perfect antidote to this frigid weather!! Thanks for sharing, Elaine!
